Clayton Cripe

Full-Stack Engineer

Building software that solves operational problems—from internal business systems to production SaaS platforms.

I build software that helps businesses operate more efficiently—from internal tools and client portals to production SaaS platforms. My work focuses on architecture, performance, maintainability, and designing systems that continue to evolve as businesses grow.

Recent work includes production SaaS platforms with multi-tenant architecture, Stripe subscription billing, and real-time collaboration systems.

Engineering Principles

I approach software development with a strong focus on architecture, performance, and long-term maintainability.

A few principles guide how I design and build systems:

  • Server-first architecture Favoring SSR and backend-driven logic to reduce unnecessary client complexity.
  • Clear ownership of state Separating UI state from business logic and persistence layers.
  • Relational data modeling Designing PostgreSQL schemas that reflect real domain relationships rather than quick NoSQL-style patterns.
  • Performance as a feature Prioritizing fast load times, efficient queries, and minimal client-side overhead.
  • Pragmatic technology choices Selecting tools that solve the problem well rather than chasing trends.

Technologies I Work With

Next.js
TypeScript
PostgreSQL
Node.js
Prisma
Tailwind CSS
Stripe

What I enjoy building

I enjoy working on software that people rely on every day—not demo projects or one-off experiments. Most of my work falls into four areas:

  • Operational software that replaces manual workflows
  • SaaS platforms designed for long-term growth
  • Internal tools and client portals
  • Backend systems that prioritize maintainability over shortcuts
Operational Software

Replace manual workflows with software teams actually enjoy using.

SaaS Platforms

Products designed for long-term growth, maintainability, and real users.

Internal Tools

Dashboards, client portals, and business applications that simplify daily operations.

Backend Systems

APIs, databases, authentication, and architecture built for reliability and long-term maintenance.

Basic Event Website Set Up

Clayton was awesome to work with. He is a great communicator and even follows up with detailed information after each task within the project. For our project he helped us set up a new event website on WordPress for our annual company conference and he did an incredible job. Throughout the process we added and subtracted tasks and he always kept up with the new vision perfectly. When I had an idea, Clayton researched how to accomplish the task or already had the knowledge to complete the ask quickly. I recommend working with Clayton on your website project.
